Can you briefly describe the cost-saving project you worked on?

The company initially considered installing conveyors, but the limited space made it costly to expand the loading of ramps to accommodate them. To address this challenge, we proposed an alternative: designing a machine that can rotate and roll tires directly from exit conveyer and into trucks.

What issue or opportunity did you identify that led to this project?

The high cost and the significant cumulative weight operators were required to lift posed challenges, compounded by legal restrictions on allowable lifting limits.

How did you execute the project?

We needed to collaborate with the supplier to develop machines capable of operating reliably across the entire TSI tire portfolio.

Were there any challenges you encountered, and how did you overcome them?

There were challenges integrating with the Simcorp conveyor system, especially after they made some automation changes. Fortunately, we received substantial support from the logistics department to address real-time issues effectively.

What were the measurable outcomes of your project?

Reducing the shipping workforce for loading operations by approximately 50%.

What did you learn from this experience?

We learned the importance of anticipating risks, conducting thorough testing, and addressing potential challenges early, before making decisions about vendors or any project-related aspects. It’s essential to involve the people who will use the solution in the process to ensure it meets their needs and is practical and user-friendly, as change and new processes often meet resistance.
